Oscar fashion – Boring gowns, Fab Jewels!!!
Yeah, yeah… we know we are late, but here goes anyways.
Honestly, Oscar fashion this year was a little bit lame…come on now, when the
only adventurous colors on the red carpet are red and black, what else can you
say. And of course, as we mentioned in our Filmfare coverage, clavicles are the
new cleavage, as is visible on nearly every gown on the red carpet. The
strapless silhouettes, the single shoulder look and the messed up pony were to
be seen on all
Hollywood divas…yawnnnnnnnnn!!!
Nothing new and nothing different!!
Having said that, we must say that Marchesa (who designed
Anne Hathaway and Jessica Alba’s gowns) were in their element, beautiful
designs from designers so new and fresh!! Versace was also right at the top by
dressing Kate Beckinsale (we LOVED this gown!!!) and Hilary Swank. Oscar de La
Renta designed Jennifer Garner’s beautiful gown (which is so similar to the
“Gauri and Nainika” gown worn by Deepika Padukone at the Filmfare awards and
the Chanel gown worn by Pemelope Cruz at the Oscars). And Katherine Heigel
channeled Marilyn Monroe in this red number by Escada.
Anyways here are our favorite looks…

Having commented on the (borrrrrrrrriinnnnnggggg) clothes,
lets move on to the more exciting aspect of fashion this year, the jewelry ;-).
So to give some credit where it is due, this year it was about the clothes
complementing the jewels vs past years, when the gowns made the statement, and
jewelry just complemented.
Ok seriously, lets start with the most jaw dropping
accessory of all times, the 1399 carat diamond necklace…phew…just saying that
makes us sweat!!! Nicole Kidman, with her baby bump, went easy on the dress,
and overloaded on the jewels, all 1399 carat of them (just in case you missed
it the first time) in a L’wren Scott necklace. Wow!!! (again..can you tell we
are impressed???)
And then Jennifer Garner (one of our favorite stars), wore a
ton of art deco jewelry by Van Cleef and Arpels (those of you looking to buy
some from the local jeweler, or your trip to India, buy some Van Cleef
catalogues off ebay, and be “inspired” by the designs), She was wearing a huge
necklace (61carats), two bracelets (56 carats), a ring (6 carats), and drop
earrings (13 carats). Really hope her security personnel were following close
behind. On a second thought, she should have taken off one piece while leaving
home (maybe two…).
Finally the girl with the prettiest dress, Anne Hathaway,
complemented her gorgeous Marchesa gown with 10 carat Harry Winston earrings,
worth over a million dollars. We loved these for their simplicity, yet the size
was significant enough (hahaha…when did 10 carat just become significant??) to
make a statement.

Enjoy!!!
